Spring 2025 - Cluck, Cluck, Coop
Calling all Michigan Youth interested in poultry! Do you want to raise chickens, collect fresh eggs, provide meat for your family and learn about sustainable food systems? MI-IMPACT will provide you with everything you need to cluck your way to success!

Eligibility Requirements: Youth ages 10-24 who are interested in raising backyard chickens and producing fresh eggs/meat for their family and community are invited to apply.
List of Program Materials (Shipped directly to your home):
- Chicken Coop/Wheels (6-8 medium size chickens)
- Chicken Run
- Dropping Trays
- Chicken Care Manual
- Gift Card to Local Chain Farm Supply Store

List of Program Materials (You will use provided gift card to secure items from your local chain farm supply store):
- Chicks (6-8) Starter Food
- Brooder Tank Grower Food
- Brooding Lamp Layer Food
- Thermometer Feeder
- Bedding/Straw Waterer

*Please Note: This program provides initial straw, bedding, food and materials needed to raise chicks and care for mature chickens. You will be responsible for purchasing additional materials for coop maintenance over the life span of your poultry.

PLEASE READ AND CONFIRM THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS BY SIGNING BELOW:
- PROPERTY -
1. I have secured, or will secure, an appropriate shelter (with electricity), such as a garage or other safe enclosed space for my baby chicks' initial brooder.
2. I have a safe and acceptable compost pit or container for disposing of chicken waste.
3. I am zoned agricultural and/or am permitted to keep chickens via local ordinance.
4. I have access to an outdoor water source and/or buckets to haul water to my coop.
5. I have access to an outdoor electrical outlet near my coop.
6. I understand my coop has wheels and can be moved around my property. I may need to take additional steps to keep my chicks/chickens secure from predators.

- SUPPLIES -
1. I am able to purchase essential items to care for my chickens long-term.
2. I have access to basic tools to assemble my coop and run.
3. I have access to a rake, shovel, gloves, boots and other outdoor materials.
4. I will be able to secure my brooder tank to prevent my chicks from escaping (i.e. hardware cloth, screen, netting).
5. I have access to a wheelbarrow and other basic farm/garden tools.

- LOCATION -
1. I am located near a chain farm supply store (Tractor Supply, Family Farm & Home, Rural King, Blain's Farm & Fleet) and have transportation to reach said store to purchase BOTH my initial supplies and ongoing coop supplies.
2. I have, or will secure, a veterinarian or emergency care facility that treats ill or injured poultry.

Application Materials: Provide a copy of a valid Michigan parent (or youth) photo ID. Provide a copy of the youth report card. Thank you.
